On another note, I have joined another SAL but have not put in one stitch yet - I'm fighting hard to get the Father's Day cards done for my Dad and Tony.
I was able to finish the Mother's Day initials for my mom and m-i-l Carol on time!  WooHoo!

Everything else is on hold until I get those two cards done.

I'm also working on the Monthly SAL and I was able to get April done.  I'm now working on May - a little late this time...

And finally here is the project I'm working on for Father's Day for my dad and Tony.

Have you noticed how relationships can be so very complicated?  Things change what seems to be overnight and you have no idea how to approach it.  I don't always try to "fix"stuff...there are just some things I have no business getting myself into.  At the same time, when it affects me, just what the heck am I suppose to do?  Sigh.  Nothing and let things move to their natural conclusion I guess.  Still, it weighs heavy on my mind.

I must admit I have no "wise words" for you this month so without anymore "guilding the lily", I close.

April Stitch from Stash...

Not a whole lot to report for April...I spent $3 on a floss box.

I needed the floss box because my wonderful dh Mike bought me this...

I hate change.  Well, I don't necessarily hate it...it's just hard to deal with.  Especially at 60...oh did I say 60?  I meant 30 - silly me!

I mean, hey, I have plans....there are things I want to do.  And this CHANGE doesn't fit in with what I want.

On another note, since this blog is not just about cross stitching, I'd like to comment on consequences.  Many people these days do not think about the consequences of their actions - either short term, or long.  They only think of how they are feeling or what they want/do not want.  They don't stop to consider how many people are truly affected by one's decisons.
I'm not talking about the candy bar that you buy at the checkout at the supermarket.  I'm talking lasting decisions, consequences that will affect people for months or years to come.  And how many people it will affect in the long run.
We have enough trouble with government officials who make decisions that affect millions daily without REALLY thinking about how it's going to affect Joe Citizen. 
Make a conscious effort today to really consider the ripples you'll create when you make a decision.  Not just how it will affect you or what you can get out of it.

February Stitch from Stash

It's been a month since I've written - and it's not because nothing's happened.  It's just I haven't sat down to write about it.

First, Stitch From Stash...

Here are some things I have finished...or not....though they do not count towards finishes to earn $ at Stitch from Stash.  That's ok though as I'm still working on my WIPs and stash.  They are all in some kind of progress even if you can't see it.

First off, Here's a finish that's a gift for some friends - Since I'm giving this to them tomorrow, I have to come up with a grand finish of some kind real fast!

 This next one is part of a SAL in which I'm participating...the picture isn't very clear - I'm sure it has a lot to do with the fact that my light blue doesn't show up well on the oatmeal colored aida.

This last is part of the Seasonal Houses by Brooke Nolan.  It's entitled Spring.  I may get it done by next spring. ;-)

For those of you who don't know, I'm also a quilter.  I haven't made a quilt in a while but recently I made a quilt for my dad who is in Personal Care Assisted Living in PA.  The hands and feet brought to you by my dh.

Stitch From Stash plus other stuff.....

It's time to report in for Stitch From Stash, the cross stitch group that helps us STOP spending money and use what we have. We have a $25 budget to work with every month.  I really don't have a lot of stash.  I have a lot of free patterns that I keep on the computer, and some I've bought.  I do have some fabric but I usually only buy what I need for a project and try to use the leftovers.  It's not easy though...just recently Joann's had a 20% off for seniors for everything including sale items.  Fortunately, that's a good thing this time as I have been saving up!  I bought, drum roll please.....39 skeins of embroidery floss and a roll of Aida.  39?  Yep, because I have 2 big projects coming up.

I've also had a finish.....

 It's my first finish for this year. It's a birth sampler for my grandson's room.
That gives me $4 credit. Nice.

It's been a bit difficult as the fabric is dark brown Aida (Browncoats unite!) so I have to wait for some nice days to work on it - it's the sunshine that helps. ;-)

In other news...I've joined a small group at my church.  They're working on the book "He Chose The Nails" by Max Lucado.  They're already in chapters 3 and 4 but catch-up shouldn't be too hard.  I'm looking forward to this.

So that's it for this month - and nothing politically incorrect this month...but the year is new.

New Year.... new resolutions?

I don't know about you, but I've made my share of New Year's Resolutions...mostly dealing with my weight and all-round physical condition.  I was actually doing fairly well before Christmas, but back slid...well, more like jumped from a plane...so now I'm starting again.  I joined a close knit group on Facebook of old friends (and new) so we'll see how I do this time.  And I'd like to keep it this way...not just so I can fit into some summer clothes but to just be as fit as I can for this....er..."middle age" body.

And of course, working on that Stitch from Stash. I realize it's only the 5th but I haven't bought any new kits or patterns.  I've actually got one finish.  Not too bad for it being the 5th of January.

This is for Aiden.  A birth announcement - only 6 years in the making.  :-D

There are other things I'm working on.  More personal things.  The most important ones. My relationship with Jesus being number one.  Michael being number two.  Joining a small group at church.

And not getting angry all the time when I see stupid stuff happening or people obviously being stupid or ignorant.  Because there's not a lot I can do in most of these cases.  But...I'll give out more hugs.  Shut up when I want to say something that I probably shouldn't.  Be kinder. More understanding. 

But, I draw the line at eye-rolling.  Sorry - its just a part of me.

All this change?  It takes time.  I'll try not to be too hard on myself with setbacks.

And I don't promise that I won't mention some of the "stupid stuff'" I see or hear on this blog.
Because I AM politically incorrect after all.

Not a whole lot new really...

I've signed up for the Stitch From Stash for 2015.  I've also made a list of projects I want to get done for the year.  Hopefully, that will keep me on track .

Now, since this blog thing is a bit new, in the creation of it anyway,  I think I have to place a button on the side of my blog for the Stitch from Stash - if you don't see it, that means I haven't figured it out.  Yet.  Some smart person will come along and tell me how...I'm sure.

On the home front, we got the news that my dd has been accepted into law enforcement and will be attending the academy soon.  This could lead to lots of different things.  But, I'm really proud of her.
I need a smiley face here.  A BIG ONE!

As you can see from earlier posts, I love to cross stitch - I thought you'd like to see an example of some older projects.  I think these are about 30 years old but I couldn't be sure. 

12 Days of Christmas.  The metal reindeer...used to belong to my mom - when they downsized, she gave them to me.  I've always loved them.  On the wall, Mike's Christmas stocking.  I don't fill that one. :-)

Finally, I want to wish each and every one of you a Blessed Christmas and New Year.  May Jesus live in your hearts and lives, may you find Comfort in Him, Joy, and that Peace that goes so far beyond our understanding that we can only stand and be amazed.

What????? How long has it been????

It's not that I ever post anything that will change the course of history.  Those of you who know me know I have a tendency to start things and then they go by the wayside.  (Yes, Mike - you're right).

But, here I am again,.  Nothing earth shattering.  Nothing life changing.  Just me.
Sort of geeky...I like Marvel movies, Star Trek, Stargate, and the occasional Godzilla movie.  I like watching Arrow, Flash, Agents of Shield...you get the idea.


I am a grandma who's in love with her three grands.
Oh and most importantly, I love Jesus. 
I'm married to a very patient, loving and the occasional eyebrow-raising man who works at a local amusement park.
I am a veteran of the U.S.Navy who believes in the Constitution - I understand that puts me on certain lists.  That's ok.  I've been on lists on and off for years. LOL!
And I cross stitch for Pete's sake.   How dangerous can I be?
Oh and dh is a vet too.  2 lists now?
My oldest dd is a vet, married to a geeky guy - also a vet - where do you think I get all my cool info?  She's the mom to those three grands.
My middle dd is married, she's gay ( oh no, another list) and I love her wife.  She's going to be a corrections officer, a cop and maybe work for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife - my dd not her wife.  Though her wife wants to work with kids - now there's a worthy cause.
My son is a hard working young man who also works at said amusement park - they often confuse the two - not sure why since they are both so different.

So, much to the amusement of many, I'm back to blogging.  I talk about lots of things...but this is so very important so pay attention - I don't give out spoilers for TV shows and movies.

Seriously, haven't you been watching a show, recorded it for later, and then someone gets on Facebook or sends out and email and says did you see....how could they have done that to him (or her).

I also post finishes to my cross stitch projects...like the below...the grands can't read yet so I know they won't be looking here...Two girls and a boy...did the pink and purple give it away?  One loves pink and princesses, one loves purple and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and ones loves video games.  They all love Lego (surprise!), baking, and crafts.  TAKE THAT NO GENDER DECEMBER!

 I also belong to a group called Stitch from Stash - using what you have instead of going out and buying more.  I could use some of that help!  I'll be posting how I'm doing on that at the end of every month.
So, there you have it...just me. Politically incorrect.
Just stuff.  And having fun with it all!

Cross Stitch Stash...

If you've been reading this, you know that I joined a Stitch from Stash group at the end of last year to help us stitch from our stash instead of going hog wild over buying new patterns and kits.  I've done pretty well - January I spent about $18.  This month $16.  At least $16 so far.  If I buy anything new it goes on next month's.  I really don't have a lot of stash.  I do have a lot of patterns so if I want to work on those, I have to buy floss - I'm not good at figuring out colors from what little I have.

A bit of an update....

Not much of a Super Bowl game, is it?  I'm a Pittsburgh Steeler fan so the game doesn't interest me too much.  Still, it's rather lopsided right now.  So I decided to go online, update my blog, see what's going on in the world of cross stitching, etc.

I do look forward to the Super Bowl commercials though, like many of you.  I've geeked out at the Captain America Winter Soldier and new Transformers (Dinobots!) trailers.  Yeah - I'm an almost 60 year old grandma that just loves that stuff!  And of course, the two Budweiser commercials.  The one welcoming home the soldier from Winter Park, FL really brought on the tears.  It's a subject near and dear to us - Husband Mike and I served in the Navy. The one with the puppy and the Clydesdales.  Yeah.  More tears.

Here is the progress on the Woodland Sampler - finally got July done.

And finally got the rag rug completed.  This one took awhile and I'm glad to have it done.  Next time I will use strips that are not as wide and thinner fabric so I can sew it up on the machine instead of hand sewing it together.  I am glad I made it though - something new - something I had never tried before.

I'm participating in a Stitch from Stash group for this year.  We have a limit of $25 we're allowed to spend each month.  I only spent $8 in January - approximate anyway.  I wrote and told how much it was but now can't remember.  I don't have a lot of stash per se - but a lot of patterns that will need cloth.  The rate I'm going though, I won't have to spend any $ since it's taking so long to finish the sampler.  But, it's a good idea and I'm enjoying participating.

You would think...

with all the information at our fingertips that findings places would be easier.  No.  Navigation by phone, maps online, nothing seems to match.  Phone numbers disconnected.  Next time I'm using my trusty Garmin.  It's never steered me wrong before.  Unless the business closed down and didn't bother to tell anyone, including it's online website.  Very frustrating.


Putting that aside, I've been busy working on my Valentine exchange - and since I haven't sent it yet, I can't show it to you now but will later, along with the website.  It's a free pattern too. ;-)

I'm also working on my Woodland Sampler.  I know I haven't done a lot it seems - you're right really.  I haven't touched it in a week.  I did a lot of work at the doctor's office.  Mostly frogging and re-doing.  I didn't like the way my dandelion puffs were coming out - so I put in a little sparkle using Kreinik thread - much better.  I also did that with the firefly in the June section.

I'm also attempting a rag rug.  I have a lot of fabric strips and so I thought I would put them to good use, besides making a quilt I mean.  It really isn't very hard, just tedious and time consuming.  It's taking longer than I thought it would but I think the outcome will be nice.  As you can see, my son Michael's cat Kortana is perfectly happy the way it is.

WIPs...

The trouble with many works-in-progress (WIPs) is that they always seem to be just that - though every once in a while, there is a completion.

Takes this for instance,

I've been working on this sampler since early last year when it first came out and only because I was so sick these past few weeks, was I able to make even this amount of progress.  Those that finished it last year have 2013 on theirs.  I'm aiming for 2014.
(Many thanks to my big helper, grandson Aiden).

Then there's us....how long have we been a work in progress?  Why, all our lives!  When will it be complete?  Well, pretty much when we die, I guess.  Because that's about how long it takes for Christ to do His work in us.  We're never done.  And then, others take a look at our lives in its completed form and say.....well, not really sure what they'll say.  I HOPE that they'll look at my life and see at least some of Christ in me. 

Remember that shirt that was around for awhile that said something like, "Please be patient...God isn't through with me yet"?  WIP.

I can honestly say I'm thankful that I'm WIPed. :-)  because I sure don't want Jesus to take another look at me and say, " I am SO done with her!"

A New Year...

which usually means a clean slate...isn't it nice that we have that chance?

And even nicer when the clean slate comes from our Lord Jesus Christ!

This year my clean slate will include making more time for devotionals and Bible Study...hubby...family...and yes, cross stitching and quilting!

Speaking of cross stitching, this is a little late but here are some of my pics of ornaments I made for Christmas this year. It may not seem like a lot but there were dupes and you don't need to see them.  I ended up making about 22 ornaments for friends and family.

A new year means a new phone and yesterday my new phone arrived. After much debate in finding a phone that would also be compatible with our car, I decided on a Droid (By Your Command). It's a testimony to the makers and programmers of that phone in that I've downloaded a couple of apps, added a new phone number to an existing favorite, and my phone has not blown up or deleted itself from my existence!

Okay - so I guess that's it from here.  It's enough, right? LOL!

Yesterday, my daughters and I participated in the Walk to End Alzheimer's.  My two grand daughters came along - though they were lucky enough to either ride in the stroller or walk on Aunt Nikki's shoulders.  It rained for almost the whole walk but it was worth it.  My team made $500 and it looks like the entire walk made an estimated $67,000 with more coming in through the end of the month.  I'm very proud of my girls and how on such short notice did so well.

The walk was a real blessing to all of us, and even though it poured almost the whole time, nothing could stop the walkers!
Next year, I'll be more prepared...I hope to make a quilt and some cross stitch items to sell and raffle off.

REJECTION

Rejection.

A very hard concept. It happens everyday. Maybe sometimes more than once a day.

There are many places of rejection – work, school, family, friends, clubs, groups, etc.

There are many types of rejection – you're not good enough, you're not funny enough, you're not serious enough, you're not pretty enough...

You're not enough....

If you're wondering why I'm posting this, it's because I was rejected today. Now, you must realize it really wasn't that big a thing and countless people are rejected for much bigger reasons. I wanted to join a certain group. Today, I got my “rejection notice”. There was no explanation. It was a form letter – or in this case, a form email. So, I considered why I was rejected. They haven't seen me so it wasn't because of what I look like...they did know how old I was so maybe I wasn't young enough. Maybe they didn't like the fact that I'm politically incorrect - the name of my blog ;-).  If you quilt, you've heard of the quilt police.  Substitute any craft and add police.  Substitute anything and add police.

Whatever the reason I was rejected.

No, it's not a serious rejection but it got me to thinking about rejection in general – and specifically.

We'll never be good enough Christians...but what's truly wonderful is that we don't have to be. Christ was rejected. He continues to be rejected. He will be rejected until He returns. But, He doesn't reject us when we come to Him.

And we're not the Jesus police, people. That's not our job.

So, no matter if a certain church has rejected you because of _________(fill in the blank), remember Christ loves you and will not reject you. If someone has rejected you because you're not ________ enough (fill in the blank again), Jesus won't. It's that simple.

Jesus is enough (cue BarlowGirl here)....and so are we.

2013 Walk to End Alzheimer's

It's been three years....

since I posted on my other blog. I'm still politically incorrect. But, here I am with another. Lucky you - you get to follow the trials and tribulations of a politically incorrect grandmother - late 50's - who loves what she does - takes care of the grand kids (3 total) - home schools the oldest grand child - quilts, cross stitches and pretty much causes mayhem and eye rolling where ever she goes. That's pretty much my intro and for those who don't know me, you will... :-) Since last my last blog... http://nonpcquilt.blogspot.com/ a lot has happened. Dh lost his job - 2x - when Cypress Gardens closed twice. I worked for Michael's for awhile. When my hours got cut, I went to work for Wal-mart for about 1 1/2 years...first as a people greeter then working in the sewing/fabric/craft section. In between all of that I developed Fibromyalgia and the start of arthritis in my knees and other places. Wal-mart "graciously" transferred me to stationary and home furnishings because there were ladies who couldn't do heavy lifting due to arthritis and Fibro. Yeah...I had it too but so what. ;-/ So, anyway, I was told had to get on my hands and knees and clean under the gondolas regularly. Also, at that time, Stephanie needed me to come north to help with her grand kids (long story) so I took leave which turned into leaving the company. Yea, I was devastated I had to leave - LOLOLOL! - oh...excuse me. So, I now care for the kids on a weekly basis. Dh is now working at Legoland Florida as Procurement Specialist. A fancy way of saying if you need it, you have to order it through him. He likes it. The grand kids like it too. So, that's me in a nutshell right now - everything is subject to change.
